I mentioned Arm, the group's rapper Psykick Lyrikah on this blog . It has, in my humble opinion, one of the best writers of French rap. When I found his band with their album "Lights in the rain", I immediately identified with the sound and lyrics; immediate adherence to an aesthetic I was looking for a long time. Subsequently I followed the different outputs of the group and I '.'ve Been able to get their album "From here" during a tour in France. It was during this tour that many people told me about a project a bit of dark beatmaker Robert the Magnificent which involved Arm. A disc that I tried every FNAC that I saw but I never found. This album's "Hamlet", composed by Robert the Magnificent, and Tepr My dog is gay three beatmakers super interesting. I did not have the heart to tell him that I had already ...



I learned some time ago so that Arm is about to release a new album alongside rapper Iris with productions of Robert the Magnificent, My dog is gay and other producers a little less known (to me) which, The Parasite, Pan @ point Boulo and The Kidd (who signed the great beat of the song title). I actually forgot Iris was in fact ... I did not remember to have heard on a compilation that I bought shortly after the discovery of Psykick Lyrikah. What a mistake, not only Iris is a great rapper with any writing as interesting as that of Arm but this compilation is the bomb. In fact, I do not know if this is not the album instead of a collective rather than compiled. It is the hard Soul'Sodium , an album combining the best of current French rap, for fans of substance and sound sought after, of course. We find the above Iris and Arm also Soklak , September and Grems , Rappers really interesting. On this album they enslave the collaborators and solo pieces with remarkable consistency and great taste. To learn more about these artsites can go on the label website LZO , very well done.



Furthermore, I also discovered this beautiful piece of Iris on a beat Para One (known for his collabos with TTC ...)




What is this disc's two largest feathers of the French rap? Excellent disk, varied beats, introspective and reflective subjects, with texts highly imaged. Artistanbul Young Audiences, on the trail of Pierre Loti

The six painters Charente-Maritime (Oleron, Rochefort, La Rochelle) are back in France after having spent an unforgettable Eyüp / Istanbul, where they were artists in residence for 15 to 23 October. Accompanied by Lionel Serik - artistic coordinator, Bergagna Dominique Bar and Daniel (our two Oléron), Annabelle Joussaume Luc Gaite, Vincent Ruffin and Patrick Sanitas were warmly received well by the municipality of city Eyüp (pending twinning with that of Rochefort) . They have been treated with onions in the city that inspires the most: "Stanbul" .

I had never heard of Lil B before falling on the latest list of Aquarius Records. My attention was instantly captured and offered excerpts completed phishing. With a name like Lil B, if I came across this artist before, I would surely discredited without really pay attention to his work and his approach . And I'd missed something really special.

Lil B's story is altogether unknown; rapper from Berkeley, California, aged 20, is part of a youth group called The Pack and invaded MySpace with a hundred different accounts. He also made a video with Soulja Boy, which has greatly contributed to make it known. But it is also very prolific on Myspace and Youtube Twitter, etc.. Lil B knows how to use social networks to their advantage and use them well.



A whole creative process behind his music and that is one thing that makes it highly interesting. Billing itself as "Based God", he named his artistic approach as "Based Freestyles. In his remarks, it seems that Lil B has always been that they saw as strange, odd group. He was being treated for "basehead" (synonym crackhead) by the people around him because of his strangeness. Only it was appropriate insult and diverted to his advantage, giving it a completely different meaning, a designation allowing him to name the character its unique approach. In so doing, it allows artistic freedom totally unbelievable. A disc New Age rap, directly linked with all the movement known as hypnagogic, closer musically by artists such Emeralds, O neohtrix Point Never Dolphins and in the Future . Based produced by The God, we can assume that it is he who has produced all the documents that make up this disc hovering. On 14 Songs, Lil B gives us his inner world, surprisingly, speaking on topics that allow very personal as to expose his philosophy of life. He talks about his fears, women, dreams, family ... It is by now an astonishing honesty, we are surprised to feel a voyeur. You may recognize the phrasing and images of Saul Williams or even Killah Priest on "Temple of the Mind." Most pieces are longer than 5 minutes and are free of refrains, which leads me to appreciate even more the approach of this atypical artist ...

Except that Lil B has not the voice of Saul Williams and his flow is monotonous and redundant after all. On some parts only he allows himself to sing wrong, but it appears as welcome in this together rather monochrome. It was under these themes as this album proves intriguing and remarkable. The liner notes are recording and the composition of this work in 1974. Masayo Asahara was then studying at Osaka University and completed a Ph.D. on American minimalists like LaMonte Young and Tony Conrad . Under the influence of groups like Faust and more rock Soft Machine, she decided to record one of his compositions fusing minimal music and more progressive rock.

Even the amazing thing about the disc of Peter Brötzmann and Han Bennink "Schwarzwaldfahrt", recorded in 1977 when the two men met in the Black Forest (in the South-West Germany) in order to improvise their lives. Closer to home, the Jewelled Antler Collective has recaptured this approach slightly aesthetic field recordings with the vagaries of nature at their disposal . Really a disc that deserves a fragile beauty to be discovered.

But besides nature, there are places that are steeped in history and it is these that interest us now. German Oak is a German group that seems to have recorded very little with their first album in 1972. There have been few but reissued on CD label Flashback just done in vinyl for the first time, I believe. Many consider this record as the quintessential Krautrock and they are not wrong. Incredible drive, stored in a bunker Nazi World War II by four young musicians from the German post-war generations. The BBC documentary on the Krautrock enlighten us a little about the pervasive sense that instilled in young of the first postwar generation. Instead of any forcing, German Oak were appropriate history and place with titles like "Raid Over Dusseldorf", "Swastika Rising" and "The Third Reich". I do not know their ideological allegiance, I do not think being pro-Nazi, perhaps only of youth who do not wish to suffer the shame and humiliation of defeat by erasing part of their history. Moreover, the back of the disc it says:

Some parts are groovy (like above) but other times on this disc are much closer Kosmische rock improvisations with synths, electric guitar and a bit more deconstructed structures.

There is another disc, which it almost made my top 10 last year, recorded in the same circumstances or almost. This is the album "Song Well " of New Zealand Anthony Milton, better known as The Nether Dawn, released on the label Porter Records. Released on Tompkins Square , a label that I associate with folk guitar altogether conventional, this album surprised me by his side more "noise" and the use of electronics.

This new release of McMillen's in the same vein as the previous one, a nice mix of folk and noise. Parts alternating between acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, banjo, violin .. Some parts are increased kalimba, played by Ralph White, who by this time comes to give a slightly exotic tinge to the whole. Found on some pieces of the song McMillen, sometimes with words, but generally have more vocalizations. The atmosphere is surprisingly dependent on changing parts. Some are clean, where there are overlapping guitar lines and other environments offer us more responsible, sounding a bit more dense. Still, despite the loss of his friends, McMillen manages to maintain a balance between interesting folk and experimental music.

Democracy is a system of government. It informs us about how people's lives is ordered, how people interact with each other and how they perceive the state and its structures. Governance implies more than the state institutions. It also includes strategies, tactics and knowledge that inform political action. Many citizens have legitimate expectations that one of the dividends of democratic governance should be access to a wide range of social services. They also claim that the democratic state they helped to establish through their struggles is socially inclusive, accountable and representative.

Blackshaw gives us a solemn work, full of emotion and beauty to the scene that opens the imagination which runs parallel to the frame of our lives. But when actors are in place, you never know what their actual roles.

This disc is intended as a culmination of the career of this unusual musician. "The Glass Bead Game " published last year had left a little on my hunger and did not seem entirely completed. On "All is Falling," Blackshaw is accompanied by Charlotte Glasson on fiddle, flute, alto saxophone, glockenspiel, Fran Bury, violin and vocals and Daniel Madavi cello. The emotional charge that usually raises the strings is the rendezvous. Blackshaw meanwhile arming of a twelve-string electric guitar, plays great piano, glockenspiel, percussion and a little voice also. A disc lyrical melodies captivating and rehearsals are well maintained. His references to minimalist composers are much more assumed than its previous album. His compositions are clear, and beautifully finished.

In fact, the only pieces ending in silence or music cuts are parts 1, 6, 7 and 8, the final piece. The last piece allows the composer to get out of the frame of reference which we used to the guitar and piano tones in exploring more drones. Glissandos of Part 7 may therefor be seen as an alarm siren inviting us to listen to what follows.



Part 6 has particularly caught my attention. Only on this piece are the voices of Blackshaw and Bury. They do not sing, they count the rhythm part. In fact Bury account 1-2-3-4 and Blackshaw punctuates another rhythm on the drums which are supportive of the guitar. Anyone with experience of Gurdjieff sacred movements feel a certain familiarity with this way of counting, recalling the account of certain rhythmic movements when performed without music. But maybe it is me who feels the need too hold on to something ...

I am often asked what are the rap records I found most marked. I am still very bothered to answer this question because it seems like it happened in stages. So, some discs have marked certain stages of my life and my musical approach. Material Intonarumori, Wu-Tang's Enter the 36 Chambers, "Mobb Deep" The Infamous "Company Flow" Funcrusher Plus "Swollen Members" Balance ".... And the list goes on multiple titles ... Albums that accompanied me in moments forts am living where I was not paying attention to necessarily make or agility lyrical rappers.

However, the album is consistently tops the list is not the one that left the greatest impression emotional. An album that I discovered quite late (99-2000), but has profoundly influenced my view of rap music. I realize increasingly that I am not the only one who has seen this masterpiece. Throughout the world, I see this album being mentioned as one of the greatest rap record ever made. I'm talking about the album from California rapper Aceyalone "A Book Of Human Language".



Aceyalone came to prominence in Los Angeles by the open mic sessions The Good Life Cafe and Project Blowed . The documentary "Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme" describes this epic of the early 90s.



It was then that the group formed Freestyle Fellowship, one of the largest group on the west coast in my opinion. Aceyalone formed, but also Mykah 9, PEACE and Self Jupiter. Alone, the quartet have redefined Hip-Hop undergound Los Angeles. They released several albums in the first half of the 90s but I never really hooked. Aceyalone and especially his sidekick Mykah 9 have redefined the concepts of "flow" and took the rap out of a comfort zone artistic. They also say that Mykah 9 is the first to rapping in "double time" on a beat.

mythical origin, Aceyalone tried quickly adventure solo and 95, he published "All Balls Do not Bounce". Record I must admit never heard ... I was too busy with his successor, the famous "A Book of Human Language". For this album, Acey has used a little known producer of Hip-Hop, some Mumbles. Born into a family of jazz musicians, Mumbles, after completing the album, turned to spiritual practice kissing a branch of Hinduism. When we have realized such a work, this does not strike me as inappropriate, but as the only possible outcome if did not want to end up like Aceyalone and never go back to the level achieved in this album. The beats are rich and varied, very different from hip-hop beats of the time and it is a criticism that has been made to this disk. I remember when I discovered this album, I listened in the car with my mother and Rass and Hacker Traumaturges my group, had the same reaction: "Yo, this is not rap, it ! Comment that the time had helped to mark a definite split in the artistic with some of my group. I was convinced to hold in my hands a masterpiece of Hip-Hop and let me say that this was not not, was simply not conceivable. I even remember that I was listening to this song:

But the real tour de force on this disc, I believe, lies in the lyrics of Aceyalone and structure of the disc. Cohesion and logic so solid that I do not think that the feat has been replicated in the world of Hip-Hop since. It is clear that Aceyalone was a guiding idea in mind and he followed through. I can not imagine the degree of reflection that it took to write these texts. For each text deals with one aspect of the human being, its integration into the language and its survival. the twenty pieces for this album, there are no weak moments, some songs mark more than others, but all are relevant and contribute to the cohesion of the work. The lucidity of his argument is equally remarkable.



I remember waiting impatiently for the rest of this disc, I keep on the lookout for what was coming out in Project Blowed and Nu Gruv Alliance . I discovered some good stuff and finally came out on disc "Accepted Eclectic" in 2001 ... and the disappointment was great, so much so that I almost hated her for not having lived up to my expectations. But in retrospect I understand that it is extremely difficult to achieve such a feat.

Initially there was a soundtrack. Superb work by the composer Bruce Langhorne, as I discovered in the virtual pages of Aquarius Records. I did a search on the composer Scott Tuma and I came across the above. The eloquence of the extracts was given enough to make me buy this disc. When I received it, I was a little reluctant to listen to soundtracks and compilations always have that effect on me there. Especially since I had never heard of the movie. But once I put in my CD player, I could not more to remove it. I have listened to the album 6 times in line that night ... Luckily it is relatively short. I was totally enthralled.



I immediately wanted to speak to publicize this hypnotic and haunting music to the greatest number. But I thought it would not do justice to do so without watching the movie first. But you are done.

For "The Hired Hand " it wants a relatively legendary film. First film produced by Peter Fonda just smoking on the trail of "Easy Rider". Fonda sought still mark the American film with a hot iron. However this scenario does not unfold as planned. According to the story, the film spent two weeks in theater to its release, was subsequently withdrawn, dropped once on American TV in 1973 and has been forgotten. That would be the insistence of Martin Scorsese, the film has been reissued on DVD in 2001 Sundance Film .. And it's not an easy film to find ... I did some video stores called directory ( Black Box, The Cinoche , Torréficition ...) and none knew of what I'm talking about. It's on Ebay that I finally found.

I can not say it's the best movie I saw, far away. But this is probably one of the most beautiful. Music by Bruce Langhorne makes sense in the context of the film and acquired a depth that eludes lorsqu'écoutée for itself.
