Social Justice and Democracy

Justice is a pillar for society, because justice is a virtue ethics. Justice does not punctual, but habit, attitude, consistency: a habit that, like any virtue, refers to the act of the person, although, normally, or bad, in case of deficit. It's when the habit is firmly rooted in the individual and the person that justice is hope, a hope made a set of expectations met in everyday life.
The democratization of politics is probably one of the most exciting projects of our time. It is a project that takes place in each world region, including in developing countries, who have experienced prolonged authoritarian political systems before does open again. However, democracy is reduced today to a multiparty electoral politics condensed from the experiences of some Western countries. Multiparty has, in turn, was the first item measure of "good governance". The result was the production of a single notion of democratic processes applied everywhere regardless of history, place or environment in which a set of technical criteria designed from western experiences narrowly defined and questionable . The champions of this view are so convinced that they have changed their version of democracy in a key policy conditionalities that are applied to developing countries of the South in their endless negotiations with international financial institutions, bilateral donors, private investors.
In building truly representative government, democracy can not flourish if it is not based on social justice, it being understood that in every political system, social justice is an integral part the articulation and exercise of citizenship. The dimensions of social justice that must be taken into account in building lasting democratic projects are numerous. They include basic social relations that underpin the economy and society, the social contract between state and society, the concerns of well-being of the majority population, the relationship between town and village, the peoples' human rights both as individuals and as communities, rights of minorities and citizens, women's rights, gender equality and the protection of children and vulnerable groups.

Democracy is a system of government. It informs us about how people's lives is ordered, how people interact with each other and how they perceive the state and its structures. Governance implies more than the state institutions. It also includes strategies, tactics and knowledge that inform political action. Many citizens have legitimate expectations that one of the dividends of democratic governance should be access to a wide range of social services. They also claim that the democratic state they helped to establish through their struggles is socially inclusive, accountable and representative.
